Pros

Excellent IT-very prompt and never point the finger anywhere else, they just take care of the problem. Nice environment, facilities are great. Some really interesting people.

Cons

Some people are not to friendly. Due to soft money there is a lot of 'what have you done for me lately' or 'what can I get from you' attitude. Lack of time used for training-expecting lot's by giving little.

Pros

Pleasant atmosphere, people are great to work with, decent benefits, working toward making the world a better place to live. I've been there 10+ years and hope to stay.

Cons

Professional researchers have to find their own funding. If you don't have a project to charge your time to, you have to reduce your hours or look for another job. If you're a good worker, management will try to help keep you, but it doesn't always work out. This usually doesn't apply to admin jobs, just work related to grants and contracts.

Pros

Entrepreneurial research - we're only working on relevant topics in hard sciences. Flexible scheduling as long as the work gets done. You can work on whatever project you wish (as long as it has funding for you). There are lots of different subjects, projects, and ideas to chase here.

Cons

No guarantee of funding. This is mitigated somewhat by gap-funding from the Institute (paid for through overhead charges on current projects). You can easily over-commit your schedule because there's so much interesting stuff to do.
