Pros

Two stars for the amazing people I was privileged to know and work with. Some of the best I've met. Unfortunately, many have moved on due to the reasons below.

Cons

Detroit Labs has been slowly going downhill for the past few years. This used to be an exceptional place to work, but culture and people are no longer priorities. Many of the best folks saw the writing on the wall and left. Leadership is visibly burned out and disconnected. Sales has never been a strong suit and biz dev is just floundering. The apprentice program was one of the things that made Labs special and it's long gone. Layoffs have cut most early career folks. Compensation is low and titles are deflated compared to market.

Pros

I worked with some of the smartest and most hard working people at Detroit Labs. The overall company culture is great in the sense they'll give you everything you need to have a good work setup at home.

Cons

I definitely think it is very difficult to get promoted at Labs. I was part of the group that Detroit Labs decided to lay off and granted I knew a few months in advance that there was a possibility and I received help but not the type of help or support that I needed. I saw people with less overall experience be put on other projects while I was kept on the sideline. They have an onsite program which is almost impossible to land, this is where they have other "clients" where you'll get submitted for a role through the Detroit Labs talent specialist but never hear back. I went from hearing from my manager that I won't be laid off to there is a chance I might to being given my lay off date.

Pros

The people who work there are great, many have left though. The benefits are really really good.

Cons

Below industry rate of pay Certain members of the leadership team gaslight. Even if you bring up an issue to work through with them, you're the problem. Toxic positivity where you cant bubble up issues with founders, which didn't use to be the case Leadership doesn't like it if you disagree, which didn't used to be the case
