Pros

The team-level people and general culture are good. Some very talented individuals. The tech / architectures are really cool, not always easy to work in but they are often built in a very interesting/smart way.

Cons

Although remote is nice, this company will work you into the ground due to a combination of poor planning/deadlines and poor resource allocation. You will get very poorly refined/defined work that requires you to cosplay as a UI/UX designer, product manager, and sometimes even developer (my actual role). I constantly have to work weekends and forgo my actual life for no overtime pay and barely average salary pay. Their response to the salary part will be that they pay on-par with XYZ market standards, but given that you will often be working well over 40 hour work weeks to accommodate poor planning/resource allocation, this is a flat out lie at worst and purposefully misleading at best. It is a tough market so we have to take what we can get, but in my experience this is not a sustainable place to work and I will likely start looking again due to burnout (overworked/underpaid). I've also never had a single meeting with any boss or anything, about anything. They don't care about your career growth or job satisfaction or anything really. You're pretty much just on an island with a crap ton of ambiguous work just being initiated at the last second before a deadline.

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback. It looks like you have been with us for less than a year and likely on one project. I appreciate your suggestions around planning contract/roadmaps/work better. Unfortunately, as government contractors, we are not often in full control of those items, they are dictated by client requirements. We CAN work with our clients to refine these and give feedback so that our team and the client can both be successful. All of our projects are different, so if you are do not feel like your project is a good match for you, I'd encourage you to reach out to your manager and/or HR to talk about options. In terms of pay, we do pay market rates which are based on where you live in the country, your level of experience and what our competitors, other government contractors are paying. Unlike in the commercial sector, the government controls the rates we can charge for the work, so we are constrained (all government contractors) by this. If you have more feedback or want to talk about your specific situation or project please reach out to me directly or to Emma, our VP of HR on Teams. ~Kendall, CEO

Thank you for taking time to write a Glassdoor review. We appreciate the feedback. I wanted to address your comment about "low pay per industry standards." We actually do pay according to industry standards and benchmark our salaries off of ERI Salary Assessor and the SHRM DC Salary Survey both data sets are based on DC area companies. This is in addition to the market data our talent acquisition team gathers as they are talking to candidates. If you defined "industry" as the greater IT industry and compare us to Microsoft, Google, Capital One, then we do pay lower than those companies. We do not consider those companies our competitors and could never match the salaries they provide. We instead align ourselves with other government contractors and both pay a market based salary while creating a great work environment as you recognized. We are glad you choose to be here. ~Kendall, CEO

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback via Glassdoor. Being at a small company has positives and negatives. The positives are all of the pros you mentioned which is the culture that we are proud of, while the negatives is the smaller portfolio of contracts that we have. If you are looking for a new opportunity, I encourage you to share that with your manager and the HR team (or DevNav), so that we can help you navigate the company and look for other opportunities. We are always hiring into new projects or positions, so despite our size, there are opportunities that employees may not be aware are there. ~Kendall, CEO
