Most miserable job of my life

Pros

Good reputation for hiring makes it easy to get recruited out of there. Account people are strategic marketers and understand digital far more than at other agencies. Technology capabilities are strong.

Cons

Little or no respect for the tiny percentage of employees who have families. Long hours (12 hour days are not unusual) and very little reward for employees who produce, unless you count thirsty Thursdays. Utilization of 200% is commonplace. Pay scale is about 25% below the market. To achieve this they hire very young, average age of the entire company is 31 (as reported by HR) ; very few employees last more than two years. Turnover across the board is extremely high. Yelling and nasty e-mails are ordinary and tolerated by senior management, very little support from immature managers. Unethical and nasty behavior is rewarded and as a result high level positions are held by people have clawed their way past their colleagues. In-fighting between functional departments is epic.

Pros

I've learned some of the most important skills that someone can in their first job - client presentations skills, creating decks, excel/tableau/sql, adobe analytics

Cons

I was shocked at how poorly Digitas treats its staff. I was placed on an account where there was supposed to be 5 data and analytics team members staffed, but there were only 2. I had to do the work of 3 people without any recognition, bonus, reward, anything.... Moreover, I was promised a promotion multiple times and directors here just lie to you in this process. I was extremely disappointed with the upper level management at this company and would not recommend Digitas to anyone because this has left such a poor taste in my mouth.

Turnover is ridiculously high for a reason

Pros

There are two things that I miss about Digitas: The generous number of vacation days/paid holidays and the people. When you're inevitably burnt out and beyond frustrated, you'll need both of these to cope.

Cons

Where do I start? 1. The clients - they're big, and with big comes boring and super demanding. 2. The management - I had 3 different VPs and 5 different managers in less than 2 years, and sometimes no manager at all (and this situation was quite common). Promotions are hard enough to come by as is, especially when everyone who is tasked with molding your career walks out the door. Also, senior management will suck the life right out of you if you let them. 3. The priorities - thanks for the tap room and random vendor-sponsored happy hour perks, but how are we supposed to enjoy them when we always have an insurmountable amount of work? 4. The lack of work/life balance - with management as checked out as they are at Digitas, there was no protection between us and internal/client firedrills. 5. The lack of efficiency - my days were full of meetings that could have just been an email or two. Ugh. 6. Speaking of meetings, the multitasking - everyone always had their computers out in meetings and spent the time half multitasking and half listening, which meant that no one ever fully knew what was going on. If it's not important enough to listen to, cancel the meeting. And if it is, put your freaking computer away! 9. The cross-capability teamwork - all of the internal Digitas teams (account management, media planning, strategy & analysis, tech, integrated production, etc.) kind of hate each other. Make friends in other departments whenever possible because they'll save you in tough times and brighten up your days.
