Pros

Pay better than other retailers (for interns at least), they have locations everywhere so you probably wont have to pay for housing, most of the people that work there are nice.

Cons

A lot of bureaucracy and a lack of creativity, atmosphere is very grey, most people are working there because they have too and managers are working for retirement, lack of communication between regional and store managers leads to a lot of problems and confusion, overall not very challenging for a university student.

Pros

They don;t do background checks, so i guess if your like a felon or something theyl'll probably hire you.. though i wasn't and they paid higher than allot of other places. Catching people who would steal lol you don't get any reward or anything but its just funny hearing these crazy stories from shoplifters trying to talk their way out of trouble.

Cons

Getting people to open Dillards cards is a pain! Mgmt. pushes you to do it, trying to be nice about it at first but if you don't they make you go to these Sunday classes early in the morning that teach ways to get people to open an account. The thing is though that most of these people don't to open it cause of the high intrest. As well as the fact that i worked in the Juniors Depatment, so most of my customers couldn't open one if they wanted to. It was kind of boring, weekdays went by slow but weekends sped by because it was busy...keeping track of all the people who try and steal was a pain sometimes.

Pros

It is a small company and senior sanagement is accessible. The buying position encompases both the buying and planning functions, so there is a great sense of ownership over the business you run. Store visits are frequently requested, so that you have the ability to see your product as well as build a relationship with the people who sell it.

Cons

There is no set training, and no training classes are offered on a regular basis. There is no sense of community within Dillards, and Dillard's doesn't support any personal development for it's employees. Dillard's doesn't have an education reimbursement program. Dillard's has a low pay rate, and poor benifits. They have necessary store visits once per month, and every Saturday durring the Holiday season, and no Holiday bonus is given.
