Pros

There are some very hard-working folks there.

Cons

It takes a special brand of sadistic-natured individuals to run Dillard's. My experience is amazement that there are people who come to work for years and try so hard and are treated so incredibly badly. I have a theory - I believe that it takes people from abusive upbringings to work there as to them it is normal.

Pros

Relationships with vendors Good place to start right out of school? Get promoted quickly and get out!

Cons

Where to begin? Shocked to read so many reviews saying the pay was good.... making $50-$60k as a BUYER (yes, not assistant/associate) is definitely not good. Well below industry and they act like any raise is a gift. Will pile on work load without ever mentioning a raise when you just acquired someone’s job on top of yours. Benefits are also terrible. Vacation time is 10 days, plus you are forced to work in the stores every Saturday thanksgiving to Christmas and Christmas Eve. They give maybe 5 holidays off. Worst company culture I’ve ever seen. They want you to live in fear. Don’t care about any personal time you may need or your life outside of work. They don’t have an HR....That should tell you something. Again, they don’t care. They don’t want feedback and would never ask for it. Don’t recall management talking about reviews (Bc they would never take the time to read and learn) but if they did they would just chalk them up as “disgruntled employees.” Company is run by full Dillard’s family and they are extremely tone-deaf.

Pros

Higher pay than most retail stores, ability to earn more if you are motivated, flexible hours that aren't as crazy as some other retailers, generous employee discount, can win free merchandise

Cons

hard to get raises and sales if you are in a slow traffic location, everything is sales quota based with no regard for other performance measurements, high employee turnover, taking other associates' sales is regularly ignored, if not outright encouraged, not getting your schedule till the day before it starts and they make an entire month at a time, management plays favorites at times, not enough training for new associates, no regard for retaining long time high performing associates
