Pros

I worked here at Din Tai Fung when it first opened in Costa Mesa. I was provided training, but it wasn't very helpful until you start to work here to see how things worked. The Ipads were helpful in the beginning until the system didn't work very efficiently and people started to complain and lines got long. The only good thing was the split tips but that was with BOH and FOH.

Cons

The owner would run this place and yell at us and tell us what he wants us to do. Everyone is constantly micromanaging you and watching your every move. You can' even take a break to use the restroom a times or drink water. The breaks are never consistent and we don't get a 30 minute lunch/break. You only get a 10 minute break and you have no choice which doesn't give you time to eat the food there. The only good part about working here was getting the food 50% off even then it's still marked up high. Discounts were good until you get tired of the same food. Also, super busy especially weekend so prepare to deal with lines, upset guest and angry Asians. Don't work here and find a place that will treat you better and with more respect. If they actually treated us better and not fire so many staff members there would be more people that would stay here to grow with this company. However, this place only cares about themselves and not their employees. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Pros

steady business and not bad tip compared to most of Chinese restaurant

I worked in this restaurant many years, and I have seen too many things in this restaurant. Poor management - Owner think they really know how to run business, actually they don't. Always run bad policy and make employee work miserable. In addition, policy changed daily, it makes employee harder to follow up. Every manager and supvisor standard are different that they would mad at you most of time and threat to cut down your tips rate. their management are completely mess. Poor treatment to employee - basically your shift are 6 hrs, and it only give you 10 min break to finish your lunch or dinner. If you break over 10 min, they will monitor and warn you that can't break over 10 min or they may terminated you employment after their consideration. In addition, a years ago they still would provided you lunch or dinner meal during your break time even food was horrible, and now they don't want to provide food anymore. They gave you 50% off of ordering their food in your 10 min break. They don't spend any money on their employee and just want to their employee as hard as they can. And then kick them out, find another new guys into it. No benefit at all.
