Worst Company I've Ever Worked For

Pros

Remote work, good tools, good equipment

Cons

CEO is delusional and very disconnected from how utterly messed up his company is because of the fear culture he creates. Customers don't stay because employees leave after a few months of realizing that they were sold into a company that is absolutely NOT people first. Executive leadership doesn't know how to tell him "no", this creates a horrible trickle-down effect on employees. Overall I wouldn't recommend this company.

More cons than pros

Pros

Autonomy and job growth is a huge plus. They have some great new benefits like free healthcare, unlimited PTO, and 401k matching. Directive has so much turnover of strategists and managers, you'll always have new faces to meet!

Cons

Processes and people change. Constantly and for the worse. When Garrett is not a fan of something or someone, you won't ever see it/them again, oftentimes without mention from leadership. You tend to find out when either you go to slack them and they are deactivated or when a client complains. There's little accountability from managers, Directors are too busy to give guidance and a huge burden is placed on strategists. Constant anxiety, little training and lack of respect from leadership. There is a very much sink or swim attitude here. OKRs are unachievable because we need to hit 100% of everything, leading to you feeling like a failure since you have to be perfect. Garrett shows little respect to employees and has to be quarantined from company-wide meetings because of his abrasive attitude. I've personally heard him call strategists as "lazy" and additional names that that probably shouldn't be spoken to ANYONE let alone folks that work so hard for you. Feedback is shunned and for a company that preaches transparency and people-first, they do the exact opposite.

Hello, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feelings here. I'm so glad that you see value in some of the new benefits programs we've rolled out, and I hope they enrich your life in the ways we intended. I also agree that things change often at our company. I tend to view this as a positive, as we're constantly trying to improve and evolve. But I also understand that change can be tiresome. As I read all the Cons you've listed, the biggest thing that stands out to me is that you didn't feel enough psychological safety to share them with me or a member of the People Operations team in person. I hope that this message encourages you to seek me out and talk about your experience. I care about you, and I know all of the leadership team shares that feeling at Directive. - Mel Dale, Head of People Operations
