Pros

Great Benefits (medical, dental, vision etc) and great coworkers.

Cons

Discover Bank focuses almost entirely on call quality above banking and financial product knowledge and experience. For example, if you are an 18 year old blond with a bubbly happy voice, but no demonstrable financial experience or knowledge, you'll go far when it comes too your monthly call quality scores. But if your a retired banker or retirement consultant, with vast banking experience and knowledge, but you have a manly voice that does not sound like a bubbly valley girl, then they will give you low call quality scores and you'll be out of the company in short order. The customers I assisted always that I was very friendly and appreciated my banking and financial product knowledge, but this obviously didn't matter to Discover Bank's quality algorithms that required me to sound like a valley girl with a lolly pop in her mouth. Your loss Discover.

Pros

The starting wage of $11/hr isn't bad for people who have zero work experience, because that's who you are working with when you start teenagers and stay at home moms who are getting a job for the first time in 18 years.

Cons

The benefits are terrible they jacked up the prices so you are paying $300+ a check for just medical for a family. It is a call center, the work is hard but what is worse that you CAN NEVER get the highest possible annual raise. If you want to move into management you better be prepared to have your nose so far up the department managers butts that you can see Oz. Those who complain and whine get what they want. Even their HR is terrible! I had someone threaten to stab, with plenty of witnesses, did they get fired? Nope in fact now they are a supervisor, because the management liked them. If you are lucky your raise will be $0.15 and that's working your self to exhaustion of every single day. Also staffing is ridiculous, your schedule says your break is at one time then staffing changes your schedule AFTER you took your break making you out of compliance for when you are supposed to be on the phone. So if you need a job and are willing to brown nose all day, Discover is the place for you. This is coming from a person who dealt with the it for 6 years. There are better jobs out there, keep looking.

Pros

great benefits, always doing contests where you can earn lots of money in gift cards, always doing pot lucks and catering food.

Cons

the first month or two of my employment was great I enjoyed it had a strong out look on the company and was really happy to be there. they do offer a great training course but then I moved up a department and was just fine there, wasn't to easy and wasn't too hard. then a month later they decided to move me up the next department where it was almost impossible to collect on unless you had the experience you needed, which I didn't have, and I had no choice. they wouldn't let me stay there. as I moved throughout the departments I started to realize all that stuff they do for you the first few months you're there and tell you how easy it is is to get raises is just to suck you in because the further you move up the more crappier they begin to treat you. collections over all is very stressful but it made it even worse having someone over my shoulder ever five seconds barking orders at me. it got to the point where I would cry every day, began calling off work a lot. also the hours are complete crap. I worked 1:30pm to 10pm mon & tues, and then 7:45am to 4:15pm wed - fri and had to work every other Saturday and one Sunday a month. the turn over from Tuesday into Wednesday was awful, considering I lived 45 mins away and they were not willing to work with me on changing it at all. had to be on a wait list to get on all days and the wait at minimum was 6 months. it's all based off favoritism, If you walk in the door and they like you you're set they will hand you and spoon feed you anything but if they don't like you good luck. you could be there for a year and the person who has no experience and only been there for three months will be making more than you and be in the position you've been training for for six months.
