Pros

You get to do cutting edge work and are mostly enabled to manage yourself. Your experience will vary depending on your immediate group but my experience was pleasant enough. My manager didn't micro manage me. The Lifeworks group and the employee resource groups are fantastic.

Cons

It is a giant corporate beast now and human feelings etc are not valued. The just concluded VSP was a mess. A very poorly managed exercise that has destroyed morale and motivation. There is NO upward mobility in most groups. You have to wait for someone to leave before you will get promoted.

Don't do it

Pros

Medical Benefits are good and the Discovery Brand is well recognized.

Cons

Upper management consists of self-promoting, egotistical bullies. Hard work does not equal job promotion, only preferential treatment will lead to career advancement. Some upper management promote unethical behaviors to push out employees they do not like. Some of the satellite offices are an extremely toxic work environment and employees that raise any questions regarding toxic environment are quickly black listed. Salary and bonuses are negligible. Family life not a priority. Vacation days are well below national trends and sick days and PTO days are practically non-existent.

Treat you like a number

Pros

Good health insurance, gym/workout perks, health office, lets you sleep if you are tired in the office.

Cons

Everyone that works there looks like they hate it, you are nothing but a number at this place and they will replace you with no regard, typical corporate. Also, they hire people who do nothing all day, and people in different departments stay in clicks, it's odd. Not a friendly type of culture. And boring environment.
