Pros

Good Benefits, good compensation. you get the chance to meet a lot of creative people. Unfortunately, they eventually move on to other opportunities because Discovery have too many boneheads making critical decisions that negatively impact their employees, ultimately poisoning morale. Collectively speaking of course.

Cons

Everything else. Upper management is a complete joke. Coincidence that the founder recently left the company to start his next venture? Hendricks probably grew tired of the stench and stagnation. At least in my experience, VERY under appreciated and over worked. Discovery will continue to consume smaller networks and companies to gain more power and revenue and eventually destroy those smaller companies and their employees after they have gobbled up their profits to invest in one or more of their hair brain ideas. In addition, History channel will continue to kick the crap out of them with original, bold, and innovative new ideas for programming while Discovery continues to churn out bile like Honey Boo Boo. Get a clue? I doubt it....

A company with great potential, but terrible leadership

Pros

At one point, DDN had some of the most talented and cool people working in internet video. There was a sense that as a team we could do the impossible. But this attitude and the talented people have left DDN.

Cons

Compared to any company in the bay area, DDN is a bare bones operation. There are no snacks, never enough video equipment, and always a line for the bathrooms. But I never really cared about that stuff. The biggest problem I had with DDN is its lack of competent leadership. The company has reorganized itself a number of times since Discovery Communications bought it, which is important when a company is developing and refining its strategy. But instead of honing their approach for their shows and networks, they shut them down and start something from scratch. Which seems to be a "throwing stuff at the wall" approach. I think it is healthy to look at what's working and what isn't, but I don't think the leadership knows what a good idea is until it is already successful. If you wait until something is successful on the internet then you are late to the game and there isn't much hope of catching up.

It may not be what it appears to be...

Pros

This review is of the Broadcast group: Great name on your resume-just get out before it goes bad-it will. You will be great if you never disagree or say no to upper management.

Cons

Negative upper management No loyalty to employees-recent changes included getting rid of several long term managers. Money? Shorter term mangers were retained. No work-life balance if you are in a position that supports broadcast. Salary means work till you drop. Office politics interfere with efficiencies. HR plays favorites to their friends.
