Pros

Flexible, asynchronous, remote. Working at Doist has been life changing for me. A great group of people who are trying their best to make a great product and a great place to work.

Cons

I don't have any cons. Asynchronous working isn't for everyone though, but it suits me perfectly.

Thank you so much for your positive review! We really enjoy an asynchronous working environment and especially a non-linear work day. Lastly, we also feel this is a GREAT group of people and so thankful to be building alongside you.

Pros

- Very interesting product - Knowledgeable people - Probably the best CEO and CTO I have ever met, both down to Earth, hands on and approachable. - Retreats twice a year to meet everyone and your team. - Sensible perks - Work from anywhere, any time

Cons

- Average staring compensation, progression on pause when I was around. - Location based compensation - Messy legacy code base with multiple ongoing migrations. Nothing you could have had experience with before. Low exposure to transferable knowledge and high chance of losing one you might have. Many parts of the code base were written by people who are no longer around and there is no documentation. You will be expected to thrive in this. - Too much dogfooding, gets in the way of being productive. - Resurfacing information is difficult. Spread across several systems, not all being well searchable. A lot of knowledge in people's heads. - Async taken to the extreme. Might not be everyone's cup of tea. In the backend team it felt like being a team of 1 and the code reflected that. - Participation in 2nd level support for a month is a nightmare. - I haven't been around for that long to confirm this but I got a feeling there are several cliques. It is not unexpected given the well above average tenure of people, especially in the C-suite. Fresh blood would do the company good.

Thank you so much for your review and apologies for taking long to respond. We aim to continously improve and iterate on all things at Doist and proud of the iterations we've made over the last 2 years. We appreciate the positive shoutout to our CEO and CTO, we can't agree more. This humble and approachable Leadership element still exists today amongst all our Leaders. We really love our product and enjoy dogfooding to make sure we get first hand experience of what is going well and what can improve. We really appreciate all the constructive feedback, thank you again for sharing this.

Pros

I worked at Doist for four years, and it remains my favourite professional experience. The company has a thoughtful and intentional approach to remote work, creating a wonderful working environment. You’re not going to find yourself in back-to-back Zoom calls or hopping on a 6am Google Meet to accommodate for time zones. Team members get to do their best work in a transparent workplace, receive the support they need from great managers, then log off and get back to IRL at the end of each day. Doist is relatively small relative to the size of its customer base, so I frequently collaborated with team members across departments. Everyone I worked with was kind, talented, and helpful. It’s a low-ego environment where the core values—ambition, mastery, independence, communication—matter. Plus, the products—Todoist and Twist—are awesome. You actually get to see the positive impact they have on customers' lives. The company offers many great perks, from 40 vacation days to a monthly learning allowance to new tech gadgets when you join. While I was there, Doist had regular salary adjustments and bonuses. The annual company retreats, company-wide and departmental, were extremely fun and always served as a re-energizing and team-building experience. Every company boasts a strong culture; Doist actually has one.

Cons

Remote work, particularly the asynchronous-first approach at Doist, is not for everyone.

Thank you for your valuable and positive feedback. Thank you for the perks shoutout and all the amazing topics that you added here. We are definitely one of the trail blazers in the world of remote and asyncronous work and have built our entire operating model on this and excited how much this continues to evolve alongside our company vision. We also enjoy our twice yearly retreats and mini-retreats, to invest in social connection and together time. Thank you again!
