Pros

Cashier position. Not many, small commute in Tampa 33604 zip code

Cons

Horrific first week! I am always on time & pleasant to all customers and workers. I have 20 years retail experience, and have seen it all. First, I was given a cash drawer and watched the SM cashier for ten minutes. Thats it for training, was not told if we even do exchanges. In all, I had about 16 minutes of training this week. I tried to get help with balloon orders, but co-workers sometimes turned the customer down, telling the customer "she is new and doesn't know anything, and I have to stock soda". Some co-workers were amazing women that deserve much better. Most of the time I was called "the new girl who doesn't know anything". On my first day, the assistant manager Jaysina came in as a customer and made a huge scene about a fight she had in the parking lot. She went to my line, grabbed the checkout divider and lectured me about using it, I was going to, I was distracted by the scene she created, as were the customers. I thought she was a customer we may have to call police on. She then went on to stop my line to give me a lecture about circling cash back receipts in a most embarrassing way. She then went to my coworker and talked about me in front of my face, very hostile and toxic. The next day, the other female AM yelled at me when I stopped work for 4 seconds and demeaned me. She also made me eat a potato chip from her dirty hand when a customer tried to return the "stale" chips, she was demeaning the man instead of giving a dollar refund. Next I had to work with Jaysina, and instead of answering a question, or helping, she would do anything to lecture me in a tone that I couldn't believe. I did tell her that as a manager myself, I would respectfully teach new employees the ropes, not refuse to train and then get mad at mistakes as an afterthought. Moral was bad in this store and everyone was on edge. Everyone had stories about mistreatment they received. Today was my last day, Jaysina and her disrespectful words and actions incensed customers, some even cursed her out and threatened her after seeing me treated that way. The customers could not believe that piece of garbage could be an employee for any place. She took extra money out of my till besides the $400 cash drop, and bullied me, also accusing me of things I am not guilty of. I truly was stuck on the register non-stop for 5 hours. Jaysina was my cashier backup, never offered me 5 minutes to shelve unwanted items. She told me not to trust anyone, even managers steal. When she accused me of not keeping track of HER 11 minute break and that she was "testing me" (in front of customers at 8:50pm), I told her I had customers in line, I cannot worry about your break and the timer never went off. There was an argument, and I will take further actions about this as well as never shop at dollar tree again. The Store Manager has probably heard every story about his assistant managers, but has no time to hire and train new workers.
