Pros

. You gain managerial experience . You can advance to a ASM rather quickly if the opportunity presents itself.

Cons

. Peers overstep. . Micromanaging. . Has a high-school clique vibe. . Low pay, yet there's high expectations to overextend yourself. . Poor management and demonstrations of leadership. . Little to no conflict resolution skills, passive in addressing or amending issues. . Retaliation. . Hostile work environment. . Part-time pay and full time pay is different yet the responsibilities are the exact same. . If your SM has a relationship with an ASM or associate and you address concerns regarding that person, it will get ignored due to the personal relationship.

Pros

Solid shifts, five days a week

Cons

You are outright disrespected by the managers. It is a matter of location, but one specific manager would take $20 out of your register for change, wait 30 minutes, and then bring you $20 in ones and ask you to give them a $20 a second time. $20 missing from the register counts as an instant firing. I have spoken with other previous workers that have also been subject to this trick as well, some outright stating this specific manager verbalized dislike for them. You are given hours that amount to 'as much as can legally be given before they are required to give you a lunch break.' You will only be given your one 10 minute break if you request or outright tell them you're going on it, and at the end of the shift, you are meant to count your own register. They will rush you through counting it to make sure you leave at the correct time. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the serious disregard for checker's health and safety. There was one incident where a gas leak took place in the building, one where myself and the other checker in the building started getting migraines from it. Instead of closing the store, they simply turned off the automatic doors so they stayed open. Another incident, a customer's Blood Bag fell off their wheel chair, resulting in a spill of several pints of blood. I was given Paper Towels on a roll and a pair of nitrile gloves, and was expected to clean the mess on my hands and knees.

Pros

The job is super easy

Cons

The shifts are only 4 hours. You are very lucky if you get 3 days a week. There never is any kind of consistency what's the schedule. One day you will work 7:30 to noon you'll be off the next in the day after that your work 6:55 at night to 10:30 at night and then you'll be off today after that. Then the next day you'll work 11:55 to 3:30. And that's it. Management expects way too much out of employees. You are not there long enough to do anything but yet they expect the world from you. The job is becoming dangerous due to the fact that the store has a huge homeless population that hang out on the side of the building and come in several times every single day shoplifting and when asked to leave the store they get violent. So now safety hardly any hours and only two or three days a week is not really worth it to me.
