Pros

DoveLewis is riding on the coattails of its reputation as a leading teaching hospital. That shiny exterior has people from all over the country flocking to be a part of it. The DVMs, technicians, assistants, CSRs are all working to keep up the image because they actually care about the work being done at Dove, however, upper management does a poor job of supporting the people on the floor- Dove's bread and butter, so to speak. It's an unspoken rule to watch your back as an employee since management loves to fire people who stir the coals a bit too much.

Cons

The constant influx of new bodies (interns/externs, new hires) makes it difficult to have a tight crew and efficient flow to the floor. Less than competitive pay. Management does not communicate and lack of professionalism when it comes to dealing with employee issues is disheartening. Forever understaffed.

Pros

Direct impact on people dealing with stressful animal emergencies, draws passionate dedicated animal medical professionals to learn from, great for the resume, +$1/hr than North West Vet Specialists (direct ER competition) for CSRs,

Cons

Poor management within department (front desk) as well as hospital wide. Huge turnover, good people wise up and leave or get singled out and eventually fired for raising concerns. Has huge gap culturally and financially between upstairs management/programs and downstairs medical facility. Medical employees overworked and under-compensated (salary, benefits, work/life balance). Current (for 3yrs) CSR and TA schedule has 50 hrs in five days (10 hr shifts with one 30 min break a shift) that leads to chronic burnout. CSR (~$12/hr) and TA (~$10/hr) not livable wages (better than some, NWVS $11/hr, worse than others, Murray Hill $15/hr for CSRs), and CVT/Tech (start at $16/hr), good luck paying those school loans. Also, poor training (only 14 days) for CSRs given the high volume of cases, strict protocols as non-profit, and paperwork for multitude of programs.

Started out well, went downhill after a bit.

Pros

Definitely get a sense that you're helping out animals and their owners during a stressful situation

Cons

Management didn't give me the impression that they cared much about their employees or their well-being. There seemed to be a lot of turn-over.
