Pros

Competitive benefits. Smart co-workers that care. A variety of interesting projects. You can take classes at MIT for free, with supervisor approval. Good work-life balance. Boston is great. If your background is GNC, go for it!

Cons

1) Limited opportunities for problem solving at the entry level. This can be frustrating if you've earned a higher degree. Must be patient. 2) If you're just a new hire eager to learn outside your field of study, this is not the place. No training or mentoring. 3) The company is trying to branch out in new directions, but those areas are not as well established as GNC / PNT. Takeaway: If you're just starting off, your goal should be to build credibility and expertise. This is best accomplished by working in an area the company is known for. At Draper, this is GNC and PNT systems. Outside that area, you might be the only expert. This is bad if you were hoping to learn from your peers but good for leading a new direction. Whatever your goals, just know what you what you are applying for!

Pros

First level managers are usually great. They seem to care about your goals. There is a lot of interesting work if you can network yourself within the company.

Cons

Draper has fully embraced the self-assessment. You have to make your own goals and assess yourself. You have to make your own case for being promoted - literally a powerpoint that gets sent to upper management where it will get ignored. Draper proudly pays consistently less than commercial competition (FAANG or anything one tier below). Engineers have been using Draper as a stepping stone to FAANG companies, resulting in a consistent drain of talent.
