Pros

Get to interact with wonderful clinical leadership; name recognition; easy commute to work

Cons

Bad middle management in IT and getting worse - analysts and leads are hard-working, senior leadership does not seem to recognize that many of the directors and managers are immature, gossipy, unnecessarily competive with each other, not hard working and just plain unprofessional. They do not act as a team which creates a very uncomfortable, sometimes hostile environment for the analysts, leads and even administrative assistants. Some IT directors undermine senior IT leadership on a regular basis by running to operational leadership to play political games and get what they want. Time to cut them all loose and build an honest, cohesive team in IT.

Pros

Good Health insurance, retirement, and flexible hours including some work from home.

Cons

Where do I start? 1. The CEO quit 2. Epic/Maestro Care implementation has tanked the Morale - accept if your an EPIC employee. But do worry that will be short lived. 3. We were told at town halls 2014 budgets had been met through attrition and consolidation. However, co-workers around me are getting layoff notices. 4. Hiring managers have very little respect for talented developers who desire department transfers and are unreasonable in their job requirements for hire.

Pros

Excellent work/life balance and retirement benefits. If you're in a solid, well-respected group, management will have your back. Lots of good employees want to affect change.

Cons

Highly siloed. Communication across groups is pitiful. There are no consequences for doing a terrible job or being unresponsive. Lots of infrastructure groups are very slow to respond to internal support needs and just don't seem to care whether or not they do their job correctly. No career growth. There's nowhere to go as a senior IT employee except into management. If you want tech opportunities, there are very few. Laughable education budget. Minimal technical training for IT staff. Lots of dead wood. Many long time employees coasting to retirement. Intelligence of staff is sub-par. For most, it's just a job, not a career. Employees who want career advancement and look for new challenges are met with roadblock after roadblock so it becomes a losing battle.
