Pros

People are impressed when you say you work at duke, that's really it!

Cons

Duke honestly doesn't care about their employees or keeping them happy. Management extremely disappointing - my manager does not know my name. There is no working together with your manager to retain staff. As long as there is a body taking care of the patients, they are happy - not concerned with toll it takes on staff or their happiness. Never a "thank you" for working hard, just emails asking nurses to do more. Paying for parking to come to work and not even have a chair to sit in is frustrating and your legs will ache.

Pros

It's Duke - good benefits, a lot of time off, some cool people to work with, a lot of different technologies and paths that you can take.

Cons

Management is very much "Do as I mean, not as I say." If you don't know how to do something and ask for help, the answer is generally figure it out yourself. Which doesn't make a lot of sense on many levels including the idea that you may be working with patient data. Do you really want your data in the hands of someone that's being told to "Figure it out"? If you make a mistake or do something management doesn't like (which is very likely since you won't get guidance from management), you will NEVER hear the end of it. Management doesn't understand the idea of letting the past be the past, management is a gossip factory, expect stories about everyone to be told. Pay raises are a joke, they know they underpay you, and will joke about it. But, during performance review season, you can "Exceed Expectations" on four out of the five categories and ultimately be "Meets Expectations" which will net you a MAXIMUM of 2% raise. You have to pay for your own parking, expect $100+/mo otherwise have to walk 15+ minutes to get to your office Team morale is non-existent, management always talks about working to improve morale but, never takes action on doing so. There is also an INSANE amount of middle management, it's unbelievably easy to step on someone else's toes, after which the gossip farm will spread it across the entire organization.
