Pros

Excellent work/life balance and retirement benefits. If you're in a solid, well-respected group, management will have your back. Lots of good employees want to affect change.

Cons

Highly siloed. Communication across groups is pitiful. There are no consequences for doing a terrible job or being unresponsive. Lots of infrastructure groups are very slow to respond to internal support needs and just don't seem to care whether or not they do their job correctly. No career growth. There's nowhere to go as a senior IT employee except into management. If you want tech opportunities, there are very few. Laughable education budget. Minimal technical training for IT staff. Lots of dead wood. Many long time employees coasting to retirement. Intelligence of staff is sub-par. For most, it's just a job, not a career. Employees who want career advancement and look for new challenges are met with roadblock after roadblock so it becomes a losing battle.

Pros

Some of the most friendly, professional people I've ever had the pleasure to work with. Lots of support from management and support services such as pharmacy, EVS, dietary, IV team, etc. Great nurse:patient ratios although if someone calls out sick it can be hard to get help. Financially well run, upper management does a good job making sure the organization is fiscally healthy and sustainable well into the future. For example, we were still getting (modest) pay raises while some of our competitors were having wage freezes.

Cons

They "outsource" a lot of nursing duties to other areas. For example, IV team, respiratory therapists, CNA's, etc. It's nice to have the help, but difficult to maintain your skills when other people are doing your job for you. I think having all the help also makes the case for keeping base salaries low. However, the positive environment keeps people there despite a lower salary . Also, the computer systems are terrible/segmented , but this should improve with Maestro.
