Dyson is at it's core still an old-guard manufacturing company. Top brass all come from manufacturing backgrounds and have NO IDEA how the software industry works, nor how software engineers work.
The new PTC campus in Batangas have in place restrictive policies more appropriate to factory workers, with rigid schedules for work hours, strict meal and snack schedules. You can't even order food for delivery to the office beyond 1pm! And we're literally in the middle of nowhere, so our food choices are limited only to the makeshift cafeteria's menu.
They justify unifying this new way of working by saying they’re removing silos across HW and SW, which means they’re just smushing all the manufacturing guys with all the software guys into ONE SINGLE RIGID work schedule and way of working. What we will end up is a MONOCULTURE centered around antiquated factory worker standards instead of an environment of diverse ways of working that adapt to solving the emergent problems, whether that be technical problems, or market trend problems.
It all feels like a setup for failure -- they ask us to move from Alabang to Batangas, only to subject us to the most restrictive ways of working fit for factory workers, far more restrictive in Batangas than Alabang. Everything just adds up as a setup for failure, as if they WANT us all to QUIT so they don't need to layoff anyone, to not need to pay off any severance package, and hence save a ton of money.
TLDR: top management doesn’t know the first thing about how software development works, nor how software engineers work. And they seem determined to jam cylindrical pegs that are software engineers down the square holes of factory worker policies.
