Pros

-Not a highly political, cut throat place to work. You come to work, do your job duties, and go home. As simple as that and its a big plus. -Upper management advertises company performance and is transparent about common goals, etc., fostering an inclusive culture. -The company works hard to celebrate diversity of thought, ethnicity, background, etc., and more people are appreciating this. They also publicly reward people in meetings, which is excellent for motivation and fostering innovation. -Pretty good work/life balance: not a crazy 80 hour/week type of place. Work is allocated pretty well and people aren't unnecessarily drowned. Company realizes the importance of life outside of work. -Exposure to a variety of neat technologies, if you seek it out. See below; if u have the mindset that you play a critical role in delivering results for advancing science in society, no matter your principal duties, you'll be ok. if u fall into the trap of churn, churn, churn like a like a machine, you'll have a big problem and may burnout (see cons).

Cons

-Most of the time doing extremely repetitive and rote work. It's very easy to feel like a mechanical cog in the wheel of a profit driven machine. There comes a point when it doesn't matter how high profit margin is because enjoying life is very, very difficult when you have to work like a machine for 40 hours/week, every week, doing mostly uncreative work. Even if someone became a billionaire, they would likely be unhappy living half of their waking hours (or more) doing transactional work. -this is why its so important to understand and appreciate the implications of the work: what our customers do, how they use the data, and what problems they're solving. Countless major tech companies use EAG, and if it weren't for EAG's services, their products would not be successful. Unfortunately, the work environment does not easily allow one to see this bigger impact. its only about the $$$ as fast as possible and curiosity goes down the drain. if u like wearing multiple hats and seeing the 'bigger picture,' this place may not be for u. -with so many people working in their own bubbles, it's hard to see or appreciate how other departments operate. Someone from one team can ask millions from another team, not realizing how difficult a request is, and vice versa. This can create occasional conflict and make some overly territorial. -Some software systems can be improved to lessen unnecessary, repetitive work. No human is perfect, and its rather easy to make simple mistakes. doesn't need to be this way if all had the attitude of yes, a mistake happened, now a chance to learn of how we can improve ourselves and our systems. growth mindset needs to be emphasized and used, not just advertised.

Thanks for your many insights. We have been working on trying to define and articulate career paths for our technical community. As you describe, it can be challenging to find the opportunities to cross train and further one's own self development with such heavy client demand! This past year has been an extremely demanding one for all of us. And, as travel restrictions due to the pandemic loosen up, we hope to get out to the labs more to get the insights and ideas of our many talented employees! In the meantime, I invite you to speak to your own manager, Site Lead or BU Leader about your ideas for improvement.
