Great for living in a country with favorable exchange rates
Pros
Set your own schedule. Fairly easy in that you don't have to create coursework (for the most part).
Cons
Although you are a contracted employee, this company is structured like you are on salary and making a decent wage. There are tons of rules and regulations and the company bombards your inbox with notifications and rule changes/updates. Also, they monitor you pretty heavily and will offer criticisms and warnings much more than encouragement. The students never seem to know how the platform for learning works and there are no checks to keep beginner students from taking advanced-level coursework or from a student requesting a custom class of something inappropriate (like editing their papers/emails). They care only about the bottom line, whether students are buying more courses, and that's why this class feels more like customer service than teaching. Speaking of service...it feels like teachers, especially in group classes, are more technicians than teachers. The amount of technical issues that aren't pre-screened because they use outdated adobe technology is astounding. I must've spent 10 percent of my time at EF just guiding a student on how to connect their microphone. There are some good people working at EF but the company as a whole is outdated and in need of a serious revamp. If you're living in SE Asia it can be lucrative but the pay rates are a joke anywhere outside of that. They don't value their teachers. Avoid this company.
