Pros

Stable employment, convenient downtown location, decent benefits package.

Cons

Outdated in every way. Old (and expensive) business model, lack of relevant training and education, current and relevant job skills are not wanted or developed, review process puts employees in a defensive position, insular environment and little PTO. Extremely cheap in every regard (education, travel, expense reimbursement). Management promotes people with a suck up, "more of the same" attitude versus transformational leadership.

Pros

On site training, decent wellness center, mostly given tools needed to succeed. Area I'm in is fairly flexible on work hours as long as you meet the minium. Benefits are great, there's even a pension.

Cons

Incredibly outdated language and corporate structure. Favorites are promoted over more qualified candidates. Each programming area is somehow allowed to define their own standards, nothing is standard throughout the company. Any attempt to inject new ideas or suggestions is met with the dreaded "we've always done it thusly" attitude. Hires are treated like children for their first 3-5 years, and there is no way to escape a supervisor who you don't get along with.

Pros

-Low-cost health insurance (medical, dental, vision) + FSA and EAP -On-site wellness center and fitness programs -401(k) - company match 50% of contributions up to 6% -Company-funded pension plan and life insurance -Stock options -Free garage/lot parking -Somewhat competitive salaries -IT VP's are approachable and value input

Cons

-Technology and software are not current -Most programming positions use antiquated, non-OOP language, MAPPER -In-house training is poor (inconsistent, sink-or-swim mentality, no continuous training) -Individual reviews focus more on team errors/interaction than on individual accomplishments -Little to no advancement opportunities -Company advertises work-life balance, but many programmers have weekly required overtime -Company advertises work-from-home 1 day/week option, but you must be exempt and *exceed* your expectations for 3 consecutive annual reviews to be considered eligible- which does not guarantee that your individual department will allow you to do so -Comp time is not offered for exempt employees -PTO takes a long time to build -Executive VP for Corp. Development doesn't even pretend to care about employees
