Pros

Top tier consulting firm. Big projects (occasionally). Good on CV. Global office presence.

Cons

Too many hierarchies, slow to adapt to trends and changes. Not a trend setter, just a follower. Awful hiring process and a very short term strategy. Quantity over quality, and filling in positions as stop gap measures. Within a year, the rate of people leaving is equal to one person leaving every month or so. They will lay off people without notice when there is not much workload, and rehire again when they think they will win the next big thing. More dim witted people in the office than smart ones. Not surprising as these people are cheap and so will not be too costly for ERM to keep. HR staff are very rude and unprofessional, and lack knowledge in hiring process and labour law, resulting in fines and lawsuits. Questionable HR and management quality. Line managers, seniors and partners fear accountability and do not have ownership. Mostly communicate verbally and then deny what they have said. Questionable work quality - short termism, high turnover, poor employee engagement, people more concerned with billable hours than quality and substance. What do you expect? If you are cheap, then pick ERM. Way too much internal politics at the senior management level. Seriously they only care about the bottom line, don’t believe all that crap they been pushing to the public about caring for employees, inclusion and career development. Just another marketing strategy to attract talents because they keep losing actual talents. Benefits- basic, dont expect too much unless you are a partner. Work environment- loud and noisy. They don’t have the sense to debate in meeting rooms.

Pros

The people you work with in a similar role (junior scientists/engineers, geologists, etc.) are the only thing that makes the job worth waking up for. The office environment, if you ever spend time in it, is an open concept floor plan.

Cons

While at ERM, I have seen more people leave the company then were promoted. Promotions are few and far between, when they happen, there is not much in terms of a pay raise or job duties. You get a new title but you still do the same work. There is a heavy amount of "project managers," if this is the direction you see your career, do not consider working here since you will not get experience in this until who knows when. Rather, you will be a field tool/data collector/technician to gather data for these project managers, often working over your salaried amount of 40 hours, with no overtime since it is considered an exempt position. Consider adding on $5-$7k to your salary before accepting. When in the field, the job tasks are very mind numbing and boring. Interns or field technicians paid hourly should be doing these tasks, not someone with a college or graduate level degree.

Pros

Working for ERM has perks like working remotely from home and flexible hours. There are opportunities to grow your career path.

Cons

Some pitfalls are: excessive overtime work which goes uncompensated for salaried workers; wear and tear on personal vehicle for work travel; inter-office politics/bickering/gossip-mongering; and over-emphasis on billability and sales over quality.
