Pros

Work here if you are desperate for a job. But keep on searching for a better one. Some of the people (particularly Partners) are trapped by their invested monies and some of them are ok. When they do lay-offs I have been told that the good news is the relief of not working there under all the imposed and very realistic pressure is wonderful.

Cons

No respect for human life. That may seem like a strong statement but it is not. I have never witnessed such severe objectification of people - you really could just be a brick in the wall. As an employee you are used, without regard to mind or talent, to plug a hole for the client. Bait and switch abound and you are expected to learn on-the-job by guessing what to do - there is no guidance or training. After years of 80 hour weeks, they won't hesitate to delete you with no consideration for you or your family. They are also dishonest about it - they have trumped up the reasons for deleting people "so they would be less likely to bring legal action against the company".

Pros

ERM has a great reputation and can quickly help you develop an international network of peers and clients. Health benefits are solid. Depending on your position your workspace can be flexible (in-office, at home or on a client's site). HR personnel mean well and work hard.

Cons

The company has changed culture dramatically in the last five years, finally following the trend of its competitors by cutting staff en-mass whenever business slows and hiring en-mass when business picks up. Loyalty, once heavily valued and fostered by the company, has evaporated on both ends. Layoffs are impersonal to rude and project teams aren't notified of layoffs until someone inquires why the laid off person isn't online. Wages are average to low unless you're a Partner, vacation is below average, and health/safety are often boxes to check or lipservice. Culture has become toxic in many areas as people are burned out or laid off.

Pros

Large company, big name clients, talented and knowledgeable professionals.

Cons

Obsessed with billability, always willing to take 80 plus hours a week, but quick to hassle you about the 10 you are short the next week. Lack of willingness to invest in capital expenditures. Everything is tied to billability and how it looks to the investors that the partners answer to. Large company policies that are inflexible and impossible to work under long term if your area of expertise does not fit their mold. Every group, branch, practice, and division are held accountable and operate differently, but not necessarily better.
