Pros

ESL really cares about creating an outstanding employee experience and it shows. From simple perks like convenient snacks and mini-meals in the cafe to the huge annual celebration party to just the peace of mind that, as a well managed and financially strong credit union, there is no fear of surprise layoffs or corporate takeovers. ESL is also good at representing its core values like caring about people. I'm a transplant to Rochester, and when I tell people I work at ESL, people in the community are very complimentary and anyone who banks there loves it and loves me by association :).

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy at ESL. I came from a different industry, so maybe this is because ESL is "bank." But It can take time to get things done. But the leadership seems to be thoughtful and sincere enough about organizational improvement, that if something really needs to get done...EVENTUALLY...it will.

Pros

There are no pros other than getting a check while looking for another job!

Cons

The culture is evil but could be inviting to some who thrive in this environment. Management does not know how to communicate with employees. VP - Branch Center Director will not ever acknowledge you exist unless you are an Assistant Manager or higher. What would it take to just say hello or acknowledge you exist? Very arrogant, rude and vain just like many of the other upper managers who do the same thing. The managers have their favorites and it shows. Many termination notices every week from tellers to CFO. You never know who will be next in line for the ax. Very disorganized at corporate level all the time. Advancement and recognition based on who you know and how well you play the game and kiss up. Performance seems almost secondary. Most never advance as you will stay where you come in. ESL is a credit Union. It should be serving members but its serves management first. Backstabbing happens daily. Trust no one. You can not afford to have friends here as they may eat you alive. You must keep your mouth shut and speak to no one to survive.

Pros

Not much. New Building and Inside Parking.

Cons

Horrible place to work. l hate it and would not reccomend it to anyone - The Strees, Goals and Managemnet are the worst. You will be happy when you find another job. You will not be valued here.
