Pros
Products are fun and the customer base means you are meeting and interacting with lots of unique people every day. It has something for all kinds of demographics, so you're not just dealing with one group of people all day. Clothing and home decor are attractive and well priced. Employee discount is very good. The music is awesome and the store smells amazing all the time because of the incense and oil diffuser. Dress code is really relaxed and you can work there with tattoos, piercings, unconventional hair, all kinds of fashion tastes, et cetera. The FB-clone "Workplace" makes it easy to connect with other employees at other locations and learn helpful tips and tricks for making things in the store easier and better for employees and customers.
Cons
Having individual dollar sales goals for every employee, without receiving a direct commission, is not conducive to good teamwork. It creates a lot of tension and is very easy for management to abuse. I get that an accountability system is desirable, but there are other crucial store duties that do not involve sales (like cleaning, back-stocking, shipment, re-organizing new displays, etc), and when employees take time to do those duties they are punished by missing the numerical goal. Jewelry is really cheap quality so prepare for returns and lots of damages. I didn't see enough difference between key holder duties and assistant manager duties to justify the five dollar pay differential plus benefits/hours. At a store level; the worst management I've encountered in my life. Name a quality you don't want management to have, you'll find it there. Gossip, lying to your face and behind your back, backstabbing, sales-stealing, bullying, favoritism, hiring friends, inappropriate inquiry into personal life, yelling and profanity, disclosing confidential medical conditions to others - anything short of actually striking an employee physically. If you aren't a friend/prior coworker or a kiss-up, you won't get hours, regardless of your sales numbers or how much customers like you. Those who complain about the lack of professionalism get bullied into quitting, get their hours cut, or get fired. Upper corporate management was made aware of all of this and yet they do nothing. I would not even shop at that location with the current staffing, let alone work there.
