Pros

From my perspective as an outside sales rep, Eastern Controls has an excellent product line up with great factory support, wonderful inside sales support, and strong service team. Generally a good group of coworkers, both personally and professionally.

Cons

Sales positions are paid a draw against commission, with no base salary. Most territories have a good book of existing steady business, so that alone isn't a bad setup. The big risk you face from a commission payment standpoint is leadership shifting things around. In the time I was there, they took away product lines, and changed a major industry segment to having dedicated sales people - they took away from your existing book of business, without increasing commission rate, meaning you get paid less. And to be clear, these changes happened across the company, not to select salespeople as punishment for underperforming.

Pros

Starting pay is good. Get some training, experience and move on. There are more rewarding jobs in this industry and you will have a work-life balance.

Cons

You will be overworked. There are no pay raises corresponding to added duties and responsibilities. Partial pay for travel time. Toxic work environment. The management team lacks ethics. HR Department is incompetent.
