Pros

Working at Edify is very lively and fun. We're always cracking jokes and poking fun at each other. There's always snacks and Ashley Weeks will always make sure we're stocked up with sandwich supplies for lunch, and beers for our cocktail hour at the end of the day. As a recent graduate of IUPUI, I have been given lots of exposure to different technologies and aspects of software engineering that I hadn't experienced in school. Things like project management, processes like fixing merge conflicts, managing tickets in Jira, learning new languages and technologies (php, SQL), debugging full stack issues, and running sprints were all new to me. While it was challenging at times, my coworkers generally have my back with any questions I had. On my first day I was given some choices on which project I would like to undertake, and they were quite diverse software projects. From a Cordova app that needed reworked, to an analytics dashboard for several different pages across the main product. That ability to pick and choose what I want to work on was very nice, and much appreciated. Bracken Fields and Cameron Weeks are great people to work for. Cameron has an aptitude for defining a goal and going after it, which I really like. It makes it easy to work for him because we know where we're trying to go. It's really cool to work for someone with as much software engineering experience as he has. Working alongside the CEO on a programming problem is a really cool feeling. Bracken is great to work with as well. He is willing to take the time and explain new responsibilities to me to make sure i'm comfortable with my role before I'm left to fulfill them. I remember on my first day, I was tasked with choosing which graphing library I would like to use to implement the analytics dashboards on the product. After consulting Bracken on which library would be a better choice, he told me that he hired me for my brain and that I get to make the decision. That level of trust right off the bat was very confidence inspiring, and a green flag in my book. Charlie, our project manager is very easy to work with. I never feel like we have too many misunderstandings, and he is always willing to sit down with me one-on-one if I have something I want to communicate to him about. Also, once I'm tasked with something, I am left to accomplish the task. There's no micromanagement at Edify. Nor are there unnecessary meetings. We have a meeting twice weekly. One for our sprint, and the other is reserved for a dev meeting where we all get back on the same page on what we're all working on, and maybe ask a few questions to the group. Usually they are kept quite short, no longer than half an hour. Overall for a first job experience I'm very satisfied with working at Edify, and I love what I do and the people I get to work with.

Cons

Since Edify is a startup and we are growing quite quickly, we sometimes are working late nights. Also occasionally, I will be stuck waiting on a back-end change so I can finish my front-end related programming tickets. This has gotten much better lately however with the hiring of more back-end developers.

Pros

They really care about their employees and you feel that every day. Great perks, and a good atmosphere to work in. Company is growing fast.

Cons

Two main offices in Carmel and Santa Monica, with a few people scattered around the country can sometimes makes communications difficult, but that's not a major concern, just something to work around.
