Pros

Overall, I had a very positive experience with the company. The company is very much committed to its roots and extremely focused on maintaining a "neighborhood" feel for their advisors. We were pushed hard in their paid training program, but were always treated fairly and with respect.

Cons

There is no help from the company regarding leads and building a practice. You are expected to be out in neighborhoods knocking on doors to generate leads. It is a very outdated and almost dangerous way for a professional to earn a living in my market. The company was obviously built this way and they are rightfully proud of it, but I don't think it is as effective in the large metropolitan market in which I worked. At any rate, I don't know that it is as successful anymore as they insist it is.

Pros

Some perks and profit sharing/bonuses. Flexible schedule

Cons

Edward Jones HQ is not a place of belonging for black people. It may vary by department , but there’s an underlying bias and discrimination towards black associates by a section of leadership. Reporting it doesn’t help either…instead of addressing the issue and assessing themselves to see what they can do to change that behavior and create a sense of belonging for all, you get the typical corporate response where they subject you to more scrutiny, and work to discredit you even further through reviews or other means, with the intention of creating grounds for potential dismissal should you take your complaints further up the chain. As a result, I’m following in my fellow black teammates footsteps and will soon be leaving the firm. I’m posting this to warn other potential future black and minority employees. Do not fall for the lip service of them creating a sense and place of belonging - yes they’re creating a sense and place of belonging, but minorities are excluded from entering that figurative place.

Pros

Help with studying for the licenses

Cons

Today I found out that I am on the hook for $75k in training fees. It was never mentioned once in the interview process! We are required to do daily training calls where the people who are licensed report their numbers to senior advisors and the rest is filled with a senior adviser talking about how great they are not worth $75k! I thought this was a finance job but it is really a cut throat sales job. What was presented is night and day from what I have seen so far. Edward Jones a culture of if you say it enough times it becomes true.
