Good coworkers. Horrible management

Pros

There are several staff members who are great to work with which can make some days really great. There are also some really interesting projects where you can learn a lot.

Cons

While some projects can be interesting there is also a lot of nearly brain dead repetitive stuff. Management seems to encourage staff members against working together and push for a more "every man for themselves" attitude. Hoarding projects and overworking yourself over communicating and spreading work around. The worst thing really is the partner in charge. He treats people like garbage on a regular basis. He will talk down to you for asking any questions and doesn't actually take the time to look over workpapers before questioning your work. Despite the many positive aspects of this firm the horrible tone at the top of the Spokane office means the whole experience is tainted.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It is heart breaking to read a comment like this one and a good reminder we always need to be improving as leaders and people. We are very proud of the quality individuals we hire and we are very glad to hear you enjoyed working with your team members. We think our culture and focus on work life balance is what distinguishes us from other regional CPA firms and we take your comments seriously. Pros

Benefits & compensation were good.

Cons

Eide Bailly's staff is very clicky. Upper management for the administrative team meets bi-weekly for touch bases which are pointless. Any concerns brought to them are basically blown off and given back to you to deal with, meaning nothing really ever gets taken care of or fixed. Seniority is used against you, when it is their best interest to throw in your face. The tax administrative staff will 'train' you and then act like you are interrupting them and being annoying if you have any questions. Be expected to know everything there is to know by the 2nd year you work there and don't ask any questions. I kept copious notes and still had questions which I ended up being afraid to ask because they wouldn't be received with any respect. The partners are wonderful to work with for the most part and I had very good relationships with them, but unfortunately you don't work as closely with them as you do the administrative staff. To work here you need to not make mistakes, because doing so means that you 'don't care about your job'. Working in the administrative department is like riding a roller coaster of ups and downs and it's draining. The pros did not out weigh the cons which was a huge reason I left.

Pros

Big firm resources - they offer good big corporation experience as in happy hours, nice office, good research tools, and annual training on regulation and legislation. Dinner was provided during the busy season if you stay past 8. Coworkers are friendly.

Cons

Like most public accounting firms, they run jobs per budget hours. If you are not familiar with the projection and spent too much time (per their definition 5-hour budget return should not take you 5.5 hours to finish), it is not acceptable. At the same time, if they required 60 chargeable hours per week and you only worked 64 hours ( which is higher than 60 right?), that is not acceptable either. Because they are really looking for 75 or 80. Very interesting management style. If you can work the hours, you will grow fast but do not expect to get paid fairly.
