Pros

Salaries are quite good for the game industry and benefits are some of the best amongst Engineering jobs anywhere.

Cons

Excessive layers of management, management lies to you about job performance. Promotions are not given for merit, rather on how friendly you are with the jocks there (the production team). It's just like high school. Furthermore their recruiters are some of the most unprofessional and rude people I've dealt with in my career.

Pros

I thought EA had a lot of very smart people. I enjoyed working with many people and learned a lot from them. The facilities were really great and kept up very well. The benefits were also very good.

Cons

The most political place I have ever worked. Most of the promotions in my group were based on the EVP's personal relationship with the employee rather than the actual job performance. Some of the most political leaders are gone now, but the legacy still remains. People were rewarded for bad behavior over and over again.

Pros

The people at EA are some of the brightest and most skilled in the industry. It is gratifying to work on a team that is focused on one task to build and ship a game. For the most part, there are no egos, just a push to do what needs to be done. This is in the Sims Division. Other divisions at EA for the most part are inefficient and disfunctional.

Cons

There is definitely a flag waving hierarchy here. If you don't toot your own horn, you will never get anywhere. I have seen the discrepancy in how people are promoted. There are managers that supervise one person. There are engineers who are unqualified yet squeeze thru the cracks because of the difficulty in training and evaluating them. The culture is broken and needs to be fixed.
