Pros

Emory University offers excellent benefits' packages at reasonable prices, as well as sick leave and vacation leave. They also offer many opportunities for higher learning.

Cons

Emory is a very large company and treats its employees as such. Individuals are not recognized for their hard work, they just become another one of the masses and policies are not tailored towards specific departments. Once you receive your job classification, it is very difficult to get a raise unless you are promoted, which can only happen if HR approves your relevant experience. Because the entire staff of the university must operate under the same policies, it does not matter how hard you work, you receive the same annual salary percentage increase as everyone else.

Pros

World renown research, excellence in teaching, flexible academic environment, cheap city living, excellent collaborative research environment, not an ivory tower.

Cons

Impossible administration. Burgeoning admin numbers are wasting money and impeding the staff and faculty from doing their jobs. Expensive administrators are choking the institution.

Pros

Surrounded by brilliant minds; pleasant university setting; endless opportunities for continuing education and certifications; flexible work schedule; an array of learning opportunities; access to resources; tuition benefit for employees and dependents; mentoring program; diversity; growth opportunities; chance to work with and meet people from many different disciplines and lines of work; Frequent visits by fascinating people like the Dalai Lama and Alice Walker.

Cons

Commute; Atlanta traffic is a bear to navigate if you live outside of the perimeter. The best way, it seems, to get around it is to move closer to work, which I am not ready to do just yet.
