The entire company is not loyal to their employees. They are greedy and only looking for a way to make a buck. The corporate staff had to deal with constant layoffs while the company makes poor decisions like trying to get into business with First Mortgage for which they lost a lot of money but just turned around and Fired/Laid Off large amounts of staff to make up for their mistake. Unless you are a part of the good ol' boys club of C officers that all live in the same "ward" you're not going to last. If you're willing to work for a company that will take you for granted and turn around and push you out the door because they are trying to make it to the positive without anyone from the Executive Team taking any type of cut or sacrifice but have to make sure that they have what they WANT like a private plane or a few extra cars in the driveway. They'll look to sale because honestly that's the quickest way to make a buck for them and they'd sacrifice their staff any day of the week to make that happen.
