Pros

Great mission. They invest money wisely.

Cons

No career path No training Corporate culture is toxic Insane turnover I didn't realize until after I left how bad the corporate culture was. I had become accustomed to it and didn't realize the stress and worry that was being placed on me from management. You spend so much time analyzing what you are going to say and how it will be accepted, that it paralyzes you into micro analyzing your every word. As a manager, if anything you said was taken negatively by an employee you were punished for it. Try to imagine correcting a bunch of underperforming employees and you will start to realize how difficult this can be. In addition, the organization itself has a hard time admitting its own weaknesses, so when they are brought up and you attempt to deal with them, you are punished politically internally, and looked upon as someone who is weak. Moreover, there is a script to go by when dealing with management. Say the right things and you are rewarded. Go off script and try to deal with issues head on, you are punished. Management is obsessed with hiring personality types instead of people of substance. If you are not a smiling, fake laughing, hotwired personality, you are looked upon as having a bad attitude and negative. Results alone will not improve your standing. The job is super sales focused. though performance objectives are very aggressive, they are straight forward.

Pros

The American Heart Association is a great place to work. Throughout my tenure, I’ve had the opportunity to grow professionally while supporting a mission that truly makes a difference. I especially appreciate the organization’s commitment to work-life balance and its supportive culture. I’m proud to be part of the AHA family.

Pros

This organization makes internal mobility a priority by focusing on career conversations with staff, their learning and development platform, recognition of great work, mentoring programs, and opportunities for employees to connect outside of their roles. It's a mission-driven organization where staff feel that their opinions are valued and that the work that they do is important, no matter their role. Incredible leads in the C-suite and regions that use feedback to drive change and results. When they say competitive pay from other non-profits, they mean it.

Cons

Department structure can be kind of confusing at times. Several training and development teams for systems, so it's hard to know who to go to first. Limited clarity on the structure of the Technology support teams. Always introducing new systems into the organization for efficiency, except certain aspects of existing software are not being maximized to their full potential. Multiple systems cause overwhelm for new hires as they start since there is no central location ("one-stop-shop") for them to find their resources.
