Pros

Amazing mission and amazing people. I have worked for the AHA since 1997 in development. I left for 3 years and came back. It is an inspiring and exciting environment; we have amazing volunteers and are run very professionally.

Saving Lives is Why

Pros

I have been with the American Heart Association for a decade now and what invigorates me to come to work every day is the fact that what I do ultimately contributes towards helping people live healthier and longer. As an employee of this organization, I am passionate about making an extraordinary impact by creating a brighter future where no one dies of cardiac arrest. Our mission of saving lives is not just a cliché that we say. It is embedded in the core of our hearts and is what drives us in everything we do.

Cons

I can't think of any right now. I believe that AHA is very competitive and consistently strives to be one of the top employers both in the profit and non-profit world.

Pros

Office closes for Christmas. Meeting people in the community. Learning CPR.

Cons

RUN RUN RUN! If you are considering another offer please do yourself a huge favor and take your career elsewhere. I've never seen an organization fun so dysfunctionally. You are over worked, severely underpaid, and they promote "work life balance" which is utter hog wash! Senior leadership really has no clue and the organization as a whole is completely out of touch. The longer I'm here the more I see it's nothing more than a glorified sales company. As soon as I can find another opportunity I wiill be running so fast, smoke will be coming from my feet!
