Pros
-Great mission (on paper at least) -Company provides a valuable service to society -Corporate awareness of need for modernization -Some of the long standing employees have deep institutional knowledge -HR/Recruiting provided one of the easiest pre-hire interactions of my career
Cons
-Numerous hiring promises broken, including relevant management training -Continued reliance on “how we’ve always done it” by longer tenured staff in the face of a $2.5mm budget deficit -Some of the longer tenured employees are combative with most change -Senior management that fails to: (1) clearly communicate goals/tasks; (2) timely review and provide feedback on deliverables; and (3) promote a team atmosphere -Unclear or disregarded lines of communication, with management sometimes pitting employees against one another, all while then criticizing those same employees behind their backs -Disregard and/or failure to accommodate diagnosed disabilities. -Poor and/or non-existent disciplinary structure that, instead, appears to simply accommodate the hiring/firing “whims” of senior management (no counseling, no PIPs, no specifics on what "people are saying", etc.) -Management unfocused and in “crisis” mode -Senior management that, instead of being constructive, chooses instead to personally demean and criticize. -Unavailability and complete lack of communication from senior management. No advice or mentorship as promised. This includes ignored emails/chats during one of the rare opportunities to have an in person meeting, as well as numerous other documented examples. -Talks a good game about equity/inclusion, but completely fails in execution (particularly as regards disabilities) as well as executive hiring practices and diversity
