Pros
- The merchant training program lives up to its promise in providing a well-rounded foundation in retail. - Bloomingdale's continues to have a strong industry reputation and is attractive to prospective employers when it's time to move on. - As a buyer or planner, you will take on a wide range of merchant responsibilities and truly drive your own business. - Great employee discount.
Cons
- There is a surprising tolerance or blind eye for imprudent, brash (possibly illegal?) behavior; most surprising is that the worst culprits are at the top of the company. - Work-life balance has suffered with the omni-channel restructure. Fewer people are expected to do far more. - Movement between GMMs is more difficult than advertised. There is little upward mobility once you've reached the buyer or planner level. - The word "entrepreneurial" is named as a company value. This is a misnomer. Bloomingdale's is not entrepreneurial. - This is a company of women that continues to be run by a boy's club. The lack of women on the Executive Committee, particularly women with children, is a disappointment.
