So close to being an ideal place to work, but falls short in some areas. - Anonymous employee Built Technologies Employee Review

Pros

There's a lot to love about working at Built and the best thing is the people. Built is pretty thorough in their hiring and is great at finding exceptionally talented people who are great to work with. It's probably the thing that Built does best. Every individual contributor is very talented and fun person to work with. The people culture is pretty good and there are a lot of great employee-led initiatives around diversity and inclusion, helping out in the community, charitable giving, etc. It's also a great product that is rapidly gaining traction. The work is challenging and interesting. There's enough good that I would definitely still recommend working here, especially if you are junior and mid level.

Cons

Unfortunately the one con is a significant one - Built is developing a reputation for being cheap. Built has not adapted to 2021 and is still living in 2019 where they think they are only competing against local Nashville companies for talent. The pay is no longer as competitive now that the market has become national, and while they have embraced temporary remote work for current Nashville employees, they have been resistant to hiring remote workers for new roles. There is also an attitude from some leaders that "this is a unicorn company and if you aren't grateful to work here, then get out." That is a delusional attitude in this market and it's why so much seasoned P&E talent has left Built in the last year. Built is excellent at finding talent and bringing it in, but not so great at keeping it. You can't retain top talent by paying mid market salaries and making it difficult to get a raise or promotion.

Pros

Hard problems. Smart people. We’re fixing real, challenging probelms in real estate. You learn fast, you’re trusted, and the work matters.

Cons

It’s not easy. Ambiguity is constant, the bar is high, and you have to be comfortable figuring things out as you go.

Pros

- pay is good - most ICs are genuinely kind and smart

Cons

I've been here long enough to realize no one in leadership has a plan. No one knows what they're doing. None of them. Built's success up to this point has purely been lack of competition. And as thats starting to change - they're scrambling and doing a "reorg" every 12 weeks and they cut jobs. As other reviews have stated - its usually the loudest person in the room who makes sweeping decisions that effect everyone at the org. I've lost count how many new technologies became "The Standard" because one person thought it would be cool to put on their resume. Then they inevitably leave and the rest of us are stuck maintaining a pile of garbage.
