Pros

Incredible and plentiful experience across a vast body of client types and service sectors. You will need to learn new skills quickly or you will work on one or two assignments before moving on. Recent management changes appear to be positively affecting the company and prospects for the future appear bright. The pay is on par or slightly better than jobs of similar description with other organizations and the benefits are adequate.

Cons

Due to the way CCS conducts its consulting business, employees are embedded with their clients for the length of each project ranging from a few weeks to a few years - with 3-9 months being average project lengths. Frequent relocation and travel is a necessity and needs to be anticipated by anyone looking to work with CCS. Anticipate a minimum of 2-4 significant geographical relocations each year. The company listens to your wishes in terms of project assignment, though rarely is able to acommodate those wishes due to contract timing and project availability. It is VERY unlikely you will work on a project within a 2 hour drive of your home and family making it necessary to live away from loved ones for extended periods of time. CCS is not as well-known in the fundraising community as they would like you to believe - more so in certain portions of the country than others. Experience as a consultant for CCS is NOT an automatic trigger for hiring managers at most non-profit organizations and often working as a consultant will be a disadvantage in future job searches as most hiring managers assume you do not have personal experience in such campaign processes as prospect qualification and solicitation - which is entirely inaccurate.
