Pros
Excellent work environment, including supportive manager and colleagues. Your work finds use in a semiconductor fab making chips that benefits millions of people by providing them electronic devices. Cymer has just one competitor in making deep UV lasers, while its parent ASML holds the dominant position over its two competitors for making chip-making scanners. In the emerging area of extreme UV, ASML and Cymer are effectively a monopoly. As The Economist recently pointed out, ASML (and not Google, Apple, or Facebook) may be the closest the global tech industry has to a linchpin.
Cons
Cymer has a relatively flat organizational structure and those wanting a rapid set of promotions may be disappointed. This is not unusual for tech companies. Given that customer support of established products is of primary importance a significant part of the work is sustaining engineering. Problem solving opportunities and opportunities to innovate do exist, but this is not a startup with a pie in the sky idea.
