Pros
The people, the technology, the potential of the company in the healthcare field.
Cons
The environment - Evolent Health in Arlington, VA has brand new beautiful offices with great chairs, nice computers, fully stocked kitchen fridge, nice conference rooms. The Evolent Health office in Pittsburgh is an old, outdated office, with chairs that are 20 years old, slow computers, small monitors, old and cramped conference room, and not even a kitchen sink in the office area. They have been promising to update or get new offices for us in Pittsburgh for well over a year. They probably never will, since it seems like they want to move and already are moving jobs to Virginia. The managers - they're either incompetent, or have a hidden agenda. They seem to talk just to hear the sound of their own voice. They claim to know how to run a software project, but the software deadlines are always missed, and there is usually no clear direction. They always change their minds on what they want the team to work on. How can you get anything done on time with a large software proejct, when you have only 6 contract developers in the Pittsburgh office, while the rest are BA's, scrummasters, and other's who really contribute little. This isn't a slam against most of the non-technical people, because management does not utitlize them properly either. Of course, there are some people in Pittsburgh, who spend their days dreaming up how work items should look in TFS, instead of focusing on what's important. The managers in Pittsburgh show favoritism among employees, and exclude anyone who does not agree with them. They also let their favorites get away with anything, don't discipline them, even if they harass other employees. The politics in the Pittsburgh office are the worst I've ever encoutered in a company. Also, if you're a manger, how can you effectively manage a team in Pittsburgh, if you are based in Virginia? And visit one every two weeks for a day or two at most? And you don't talk to you direct reports, but ask third parties, who are not even Evolent employees, about the performance of Evolent employees. Do yourself a favor. Don't take a job in the Pittsburgh office. If you're lucky enough to land a job in Virginia or some other location, then by all means, you'll probably love working for Evolent.
