Pros

There are no real "pros" to working at ExamSoft. The company attempts to be employee friendly, but they fail miserably. The work is painful and dull. The people are very mediocre, at best.

Cons

Some of what I will say may seem harsh, but it's the only way to present an honest view of ExamSoft. This is not hyperbole and I'm not exaggerating, do not work at ExamSoft. The company is the Titanic and it has definitely struck an iceberg. The product and business model has fallen behind and ExamSoft is getting trampled by competition that is much smaller and far more agile. The morale of the employees is the same as those on the Titanic after hitting the iceberg, it is a depressing scene and it sucks any excitement out of your life. The leadership group is painfully bad. I have no idea where they found some of these individuals, but they shouldn't be in management at a fast food chain, let alone a business that is in "education". The "old guard" are a cancer to the organization and are stuck in a mindset that worked years ago, but no longer works. They are unable to adapt and are dragging the company into failure. On top causing 100% of the issues that exist at the business, they are terrible people and cause a huge amount of the moral issues that exist. They blame everyone and everything but themselves, constantly creating hysteria and making decisions that cause more pain and rarely any sort of solution. Outside of the people issues, the product the company provides is in a shockingly terrible state. As you've seen in other reviews, the product has had catastrophic failures during the Bar exam, which is the biggest piece of the business. The product has also failed repeatedly during critical times for educational institutions, like during finals. ExamSoft is bleeding customers and has quickly lost ground to new competitors. They announced a new "product" years ago and have failed to deliver it, repeatedly making the same bad mistake to re-direct resources to the old, broken product and refusing to make any sort of strategic decision to get the new product off the ground. The core of these failures rests with the CEO. I've worked in a lot of environments, but I've never seen a setting where the CEO provides zero value. The root of the problem with the product is that loud mouths that can't do their job and insist that every little feature in the world is needed, so they can have training wheels for their job. The CEO knows this is a problem, but he's too much of a coward to fix the issue. The CEO provides zero direction or strategic leadership. At no point have I seen him move any initiative forward or provide any real value. His job seems to consist of inappropriate comments and talking about how much money he makes. With the #metoo movement stuff I would be shocked if there isn't some kind of issue that has been raised with the CEO, some of the things he has said in public are shockingly stupid. The company and these problems are stuck behind the leadership of these individuals and they are driving everything into the ground. Being a part of this is crushingly depressing and watching a business kill itself is not something anyone wants to be a part of. As I mentioned previously, do not work at ExamSoft. If you are in a position to wait on any other job, do so. The only way you should consider a job at ExamSoft is if you have absolutely no other choice and would lose your home or you cannot feed your children. Also, as a note to a recent review and the ExamSoft response, the response that they have a clear plan when terminating employees is 100% false. I know for a fact that they have let people go with NO warning whatsoever. Not even a mediocre review and then fired, there are instances of positive reviews and then the person is terminated randomly. The leadership group is impulsive and panicked by all of the issues and it shows.

Pros

ExamSoft has strong leadership with a clear and consistent vision for where the company is headed. The organization does a great job staying true to its identity while continuing to evolve its product suite in ways that meet and often exceed client needs. There is a genuine mindset of continuous improvement, and that shows up in both the platform and how teams approach their work. It’s also a mission you can genuinely get behind. The company is deeply invested in doing right by its clients and often goes further than most to ensure success. There’s a strong commitment to getting it right, every time, not just delivering a product. Training and onboarding are taken seriously, and teams are generally supportive and willing to help you ramp and succeed. There’s a sense that people want you to do well, especially early on. The company also does a solid job of practicing what it promotes around work-life balance. While base salaries may not always be the most competitive, the bonus structure, commissions, and overall benefits package help offset that gap in a meaningful way.

Cons

Upward mobility is limited, and career progression can feel unclear or stagnant over time. There is also a noticeable tendency for favoritism within management, which can impact opportunities and team dynamics. The culture can lean political and, at times, toxic depending on the team or leadership structure. While it’s not the worst environment out there, it can create friction and inconsistency in employee experience.
