Pros

There's plenty of parking since everyone is leaving.

Cons

This is a company that was amazing, but that history is no longer even required to describe the downfall. It stands completely on its own as a horrible company without the need for any relative comparison. Management in the company is incredibly indecisive, which leads to an enormous amount of wasted time. Then, once they are actually able to make a decision, it is laid out with absurd deadlines, which would have been completely reasonable had they been able to make decisions more effectively earlier in the process. Additionally, when these late decisions come out, they are paired with panicked statements declaring we cannot meet our company goals without making those deadlines. Then the teams buckle down, get the work done while sacrificing their family lives, and are rewarded at the end with the bonuses we were told we'd get would be coming in at only 21% of what was originally stated. The messaging behind this is that we all succeed and fail together. Immediately after this messaging, the executive team and their spouses joined the sales team on an all-inclusive trip to Aruba to celebrate the failure that we all experienced together. Politically speaking, that was the blindest decision they could have made. This company's earlier success was built on its belief and support of any company's most valuable resource: its people. It has 100% flipped and become one of those awful companies that is completely soulless. The pressure that is coming down on the employees is crushing them. There is an attempt to use pressure as motivation, but the only motivation it creates is motivation to interview elsewhere and get out. And with the hiring freeze, even for positions that are vacated, that'll just make things harder on those that remain. Sorry about that.

This is Tim Clifford, CEO. We take your comments seriously, and it is clear you are very unhappy. I agree, the company has changed dramatically over the past three years; from a small point solution provider with a small, familial culture to a leader in enterprise software and analytics serving over 80,000 schools in North America. Naturally there will be tremendous change when growing through that kind of transition; we were only 100 employees in one office a little over 3 years ago and today we have over 650 dedicated employees and friends in five offices and almost a third of our team works remotely. My personal commitment and that of the management team is to make this culture, and this work experience, the best in anyone’s career who logs onto a Frontline Education device each day. This is why we are paying out dozens of millions of dollars to all non-executive employees hired before last spring based on our successful sale to Thoma Bravo last fall. I’ve never in my career seen anything close to this paid to employees on the sale of a company, and this significant payout was made possible by an unprecedented increase in valuation of the company due to growth. And this growth was led by a very experienced and committed team of executives who recently joined the company. If we didn’t value our employees, we wouldn’t have done this. We strive to make Frontline a really great company full of employees who want to contribute to our success. I encourage you to come speak with me, another executive, your supervisor or an HR business partner if you feel that your career at Frontline is no longer rewarding or satisfying. Based on some of your comments, you have misinformation, and I hope you give us a chance to hear your concerns, correct any misinformation which might have you upset, or explain why we are doing certain things. We would also like your feedback, as I hope you know we encourage that every day. I am never afraid to admit mistakes and listen for feedback. I, for one, would love to hear you out and see what we can do to get you back to a place of excitement and engagement as this is a winning company bringing innovation to our market every day and most everyone else here is fired up! Please come out from anonymity and help us help you!

Pros

I have genuinely enjoyed my experience at Frontline Education. The culture is collaborative, supportive, and focused on both professional growth and innovation. Leadership consistently invests in employees while also making meaningful investments in AI and technology that are clearly shaping the future of the company in a positive way. It is exciting to be part of an organization that is forward thinking and committed to evolving with the needs of education. The direction the company is headed feels strategic and purpose driven. Teams are encouraged to share ideas, embrace change, and contribute to impactful work that truly matters. What stands out most is the balance between innovation and people. Frontline continues to create an environment where employees feel valued while also pushing boundaries in ways that will keep the company competitive and innovative.

Cons

My experience has been very positive.

Pros

The team members I work with are amazing remnants of what the company used to be like just a short year ago. Unlimited PTO and remote work (unless you're close enough to an office for them to force attendance) are great for work-life balance.

Cons

Tiny annual raises, often lower than the rate of inflation. The company has made a clear shift away from having a "family" culture toward cutthroat productivity at all costs. Before I begin this section, I'll premise it by stating clearly: I am not anti-AI. It's an amazing tool that has helped me be far more productive in my work. BUT: Upper management, especially in Product, seems to have been taken over by people who, in my view, are AI grifters. More interested in bolstering their resume with "AI revolution" than working in a company alongside human beings. "AI First" has translated to upper management demanding the use of AI wherever possible, followed by a more recent scolding (and I use that word intentionally, as it was the clear tone of the meeting) in a Technology-wide meeting for using it "wrong" now that AI providers are hiking up fees, with no self-awareness or accountability for the fact that we were doing what was asked with a new technology we haven't yet received formal training on. "AI First" has also translated to employees with a decade+ tenure being demoted and shuffled around to make room for more pro-AI new-hires. What this has all led to is some of our best and most knowledgeable team members leaving the company over the past month or two, leaving us with huge knowledge gaps that will not be filled by AI tools.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Frontline's commitment to supporting the K-12 community has not changed, and neither has our belief that our people are our greatest strength. We continue to hear from team members that our culture is collaborative, welcoming, and mission-driven, and we're intentional about building a team with the skills, expertise, and accountability needed to support our customers and our future success. As we continue to embrace AI, our focus is on using it to reduce manual, repetitive work, accelerate innovation, and help teams solve problems more efficiently. We're making significant investments in AI tools, enablement, and skill development because we want Frontline to be a place where team members can grow their careers while helping shape the future of K-12 technology. By mid-year, we will have expanded those investments through additional AI tools, training, and enablement opportunities designed to help our teams build new skills and work more effectively. We believe AI is a powerful tool, but its greatest value comes when paired with the expertise, creativity, and judgment of talented professionals. The knowledge and dedication of our Frontliners remain essential to how we serve our customers and deliver results. If you would like to discuss your feedback further, we encourage you to reach out to our People and Culture team: P&C@frontlineed.com.
