Pros

Build relationships with the regular customers. Offer a smile and brief conversation to help to alleviate the stress for some coming thru the line.

Cons

Kings is about to enter into contract negotiations but is unwilling at this date to increase pay for all employees. The company is one of, if not the lowest, pay scale of local retailers. Many in management are dismissive and unsupportive of SD associates in favor of verbally and physically abusive customers who threaten to complain to corporate. The higher ups refuse to draw the line for these customers. So the result is that SD associates are not treated with regard and the turnover rate is high. Besides a low morale environment, there is also the consideration of low pay versus a heavy work load. SDs are expected to know WU, utility payments, MOs, Tickets West, Rockies, Colorado Lottery, loyalty cards processes, different payment card reloads, non-contract phone service, returns and exchanges, bus passes and various other events that the store acts as a vendor as well as put returns back on the shelf. All while engaging in a friendly manner with hundreds of customers a day. SDs handle thousands of dollars on a daily basis but are paid 20 cents more on average than the courtesy clerks who bag groceries and retrieve carts. While there is nothing wrong with being a CC, the work load versus pay is disgustingly disproportionate. Lastly, there is no work/life balance. Although many of the SDs have put caps on their work hours, Kings ignores that. There are several employees at one store who only applied for 20 hours who are scheduled for 36-40. The organizations does not respect the fact that employees have other obligations outside of working for King Soopers.
