Pros

Fellow staff are great to commiserate with! The Lawyers' Committee is a great stepping stone to another place but don't plan to spend more than 1-2 years here for your sanity.

Cons

It is unbelievably disheartening to work at the Lawyers' Committee as it pretends to advocate on behalf of Black Americans and people of color while treating its staff of color and LGBTQ+ staff like disposable trash. Executive management is dreadful. The benefits are mediocre at best and salary is well below sister organizations that Executive Management wants the organization to be compared to. There's minimal work-life balance, which the Pres claims is because of Trump, but it's really because they don't hire adequate support staff. Whoever heard of a well-endowed legal organization without legal assistants and paralegals? Counsels and Project Directors do a lot of assistant-level work, so there's no ability to efficiently operate at a high-level. Turnover is high as a result. The Executive Management team has taken their disregard for staff to a new level during the COVID-19 Pandemic and doesn't provide adequate guidance or any sort of plan for teleworking. Decisions are made on a week's notice, even though most staff know it's not safe to return back to the office. There's a reason why the only positive reviews for the org are from former interns.

Pros

Great mission and great colleagues.

Cons

There are many programs and active cases, would be great to have more opportunities to share and learn what others are working on.

I loved the team I was assigned to. They allowed me to work with both the litigation and policy teams.

Cons

Nothing bad to report. I loved being an intern.
