Pros

Pros are flexible working hours, good benefits, and a free pair of glasses every year. As a student, I can go to class during the day, and pick up a shift in the evening. It allows me to pay my bills, and after working there for seven years, I'm making a very decent wage for a retail job.

Cons

Upper management changes regularly, so the course of the company is constantly changing. Every year there is a new sales pitch designed to get every person in the store buying everything every time. The focus when I started was on providing good customer service and a high-quality product. The quality is still there, but hours are constantly being cut, often with very little warning, rendering quality customer service difficult if not impossible during peak hours. Further, it is hard to stay full time with such hours cuts, so even though the benefits are really good (health insurance premiums are low while the insurance is great), it is really hard to earn the 30 hours per week minimum necessary to be full time, unless you are a manager. When you are in management, expect a small salary increase.

Pros

Great pay and benefits! Thankfully I work with a great team as well!

Cons

This is the ultimate rat race job, always chasing numbers and getting scrutinized for every little thing they track, including non sales things like how many inspections Opticians are doing no other Optician job I have had is so hyper focused on numbers and tracking everything. Also your total hours can get cut based on store performance on occasion. But if you can put up with that you can collect a great paycheck overall! Just know you are worth more than these "numbers" they have you chase, and create a life outside of work that reflects your true personal value and non-monetary values.
