Pros

You get a good amount of training and learn valuable skills for future photography endeavors, managers are nice, and clientele is usually fairly nice.

Cons

Constantly on-call, coworkers backstab one another to get more hours, promises of advancement but no follow-through, short lunches, terrible client scheduling (no time for setup between appointments, 10 min limit with each client, constantly behind schedule), you're not allowed to perform outside photography, you aren't allowed to build a portfolio with photos you've taken, always understaffed, not given extra time for newborns/pets so you're expected to schedule them before you open or as the last appointment and stay late.

Pros

Strong since of community at local level, and support from Directors and regional managers however all that support is no longer employed.

Cons

Revolving CEO lead to new strategic focus every 3 years. Round after round of layoffs, mergers, restructures. I went through no less than 6 during my 5 years as a senior manager. Lost local control, and ability to build relationships with accounts. Closed offices based on lease agreements rather than area performance. I would be very careful to ask questions about culture, and tenure of staff, ask how many offices were closed or restructures have happened since Shutterfly, and then Apollo Global Capital. Apollo Global Management usually holds onto assets for 3-5 years, we are past that mark so I would be expecting that they will be breaking up Shutterfly in the near future if it is no longer profitable.
