Pros
If you enjoy traveling and meeting new people and photographing them, this is a great opportunity. I've made a lot of friends in my district (which covers about 3 states). If you are great at sales, the income is also decent. Definitely a single person career. The photographers that you work with are very informative. This is a great entry level sales/photography position. The photography is a bit cookie cutter. The camera has specific settings that you can't adjust. If you do adjust them, the computer that you load the pictures into will give you error messages and you need to repeat the photo session because the computer will not take the pictures. The settings to give you a broad spectrum of things that you have the potential to do, but it's difficult to take things to the next level because like I said, it is cookie cutter. Although I was not enrolled in the health benefits program, Lifetouch uses Blue Cross Blue Shield. It's a pricey insurance company, but it gives you wonderful benefits. My dad has had it on me all my life and my mom has been very pleased with the way medical professionals treated my brothers and myself.
Cons
If you are not a hound on the sales table, income is going to range from roughly 18-25k/year. Paid on commission or minimum wage, which ever is greater. Management will hound on the sales. If you don't want someone up your back about increasing sales, then this isn't the job for you. The equipment, at times, can be old. The software isn't optimized to its fullest potential. minor cons though. Major Con: If you have a family that you want to be with on a regular basis, the Photography Sales Specialist position is not for you! You will be traveling! You can request that you stay close to home, but you will get gigs where you need to travel. If you are bad at sales, you will not have a great income.
