Pros

The products they work on are pretty neat even though they barely hire enough staff to work on them. Company has good name recognition.

Cons

Your every task will be micro managed. Google allows 20% of an employees time to be used for finding ways to improve things. Micros never improves because they don't want employees to have time to do anything. This idea from google would not be adopted at Micros because they operate in an environment that is 4 or 5 decades old. Employees are treated terribly. You must work 8-5 with lunch from 12-1 with no consideration for flex hours. The corporate policy is that telecommuting is strictly forbidden. Numerous studies show telecommuting is advantageous for employers but they are too dumb to listen. Companies in the area allow these types of benefits, so Micros fails to get good employees. Employees work extremely hard but do not get raises or bonuses. They hire the lowest caliber employee because they offer the lowest salary. Also they do not pay well enough to retain their best and smartest employees. It's a revolving door, and knowledge is constantly leaving the company because there is no internal intranet or process for retaining knowledge. No internal processes or documentation to help new or existing employees. Apparently the CEO does not value documentation, and I have heard this many times. I have worked at Micros three years and I am one of the most senior people here. That is an awful culture if there ever was one. Developers who have been around for 6 months are making decisions that are made by seasoned product management teams at other companies. Employees who work here for three months get to train new hires, so no one knows anything. The blind leads the blind.

Pros

I work in the Hotel Systems Division My managers have all been great and I like the people I work with. I think upper management honestly appreciates my efforts. I feel that I am rewarded and recognized for the work that I do. MICROS has been good to me and I feel very fortunate to be able to work there. There are many opportunities for growth and advancement. This would be a great place for a recent college grad with some hotel or restaurant experience to start a career, or for anyone with industry experience and an interest in technology. For an entry level installer position, be prepared to travel nearly 100% of the time, which can be fun and is certainly interesting. I don't know what the recent acquisition of MICROS by Oracle will mean to the future of MICROS, but I'm excited about it. I would recommend MICROS to anyone who is deemed qualified to work there.

Cons

There were some conerns in the past about the lack of culture at MICROS. Some of this was fueled by comments from disgruntled employees. The culter is much better though, and it continues to improve. It seeems like the better you are, the harder they work you. This is espcially impactful to travelling employees. The better ones hit the road while the losers sit at home. They tend to not have enough employees for the work that needs to be done, so the existing staff has to work that much harder and I think in the end it's the customers who suffer.
